I had never tried pretzel knots before, so when I spotted 4700BC Himalayan Salt Pretzel – No Palm Oil on Zepto, I became curious.
The packaging looked premium, the little pretzels looked cute, and the product photographs made them look like a proper crunchy snack.
So on July 8, 2026, I decided to give them a try.
I bought one 50 g pack for ₹56 from Zepto.
And after eating them over several days, sharing them with my parents, and eventually throwing away what was left, I have to say...
These looked much better than they tasted to me.
Here's my honest experience.

📦 First Impressions — The Packaging Looks Premium
The first thing that caught my attention was the packaging.
The light blue colour looks really nice, and the plastic packaging feels considerably more premium than the average packaged snack.
It gives the impression that you're buying something a little more sophisticated than an ordinary packet of biscuits or namkeen.
The branding is clean, and the product photographs make the pretzels look quite substantial.
But there is a small catch.
The actual pretzels are much smaller.
They're mini-sized, so don't expect large bakery-style pretzels.
I wouldn't call the product misleading, though. The pack contains additional product photographs that give you a better idea of the actual size.
Still, if you only look at the main product image, the pretzels can appear larger than they really are.
🥨 What Do the 4700BC Pretzel Knots Actually Taste Like?
This was probably the most important part of my experience.
If you're expecting the taste of a traditional pretzel, I think you should adjust your expectations.
To me, these tasted much more like crunchy biscuits shaped like pretzels than what I imagine a traditional pretzel to taste like.
The pretzel shape is definitely there, but the overall eating experience didn't feel particularly "pretzel-like" to me.
The ingredients listed for the product include wheat flour, rice bran oil, sugar, salt and yeast, among others.
The flavour itself is difficult to describe because it's not particularly strong.
It's crunchy, baked and savoury, with sweetness in the background.
But the biggest problem I had was the salt.
🧂 The Salt Wasn't Evenly Distributed
This was one of the things I noticed almost immediately.
Some pretzels—or parts of them—were extremely salty.
Then I'd eat another piece that was moderately salted.
And occasionally, I'd get one that barely seemed salty at all.
So the seasoning didn't feel particularly consistent from bite to bite.
My mother also tried them and found them too salty, which was one of the reasons she didn't enjoy them.
I felt similarly.
I didn't hate every bite, but I couldn't say I enjoyed the flavour enough to want to keep eating them.
☕ Eating Them With Tea
I ended up eating these over several days, mostly alongside tea.
And honestly, that's probably how I enjoyed them most.
Having a few pieces with a hot drink makes them easier to snack on.
But I wouldn't want to eat a large quantity at once.
After eating several pieces, I found the snack somewhat difficult to continue eating. It felt a little dry and, personally, I found it somewhat suffocating to eat in larger quantities without a drink.
So this isn't the kind of snack where I could casually sit down and finish the entire packet.
👨👩👧 What Did My Parents Think?
I gave some to my parents because I wanted to know whether my reaction was just personal preference.
My mother didn't like them either.
Her main complaint was that they were too salty.
The packet remained at home for several days, with nobody particularly interested in finishing it.
Eventually, I threw away what was left.
That's probably the clearest indication of how much we enjoyed them.
🤔 Did They Make Me Feel Bloated?
I personally felt somewhat bloated after eating even around two pieces.
I'm not claiming that the product causes bloating in everyone—that was simply my own experience.
It could also have been related to what else I had eaten that day.
So I'd consider this a personal observation rather than a general health claim.
🥨 Are These Actually Pretzels?
This is where expectations matter.
If you've eaten traditional soft pretzels or you're expecting the kind of flavour and texture associated with bakery-style pretzels, these may surprise you.
For me, they felt much closer to a crunchy biscuit or baked snack in a pretzel shape.
That isn't necessarily a bad thing if that's what you're looking for.
But personally, the pretzel shape created an expectation that the flavour would be more interesting than it actually was.
💰 Is ₹56 Worth It?
This is where I struggled the most with recommending them.
I paid ₹56 for 50 g on Zepto.
The price can vary considerably depending on the store, location and discounts. For example, current online listings show the same 50 g product at different prices, including around ₹51–₹60.
For me, though, the issue isn't simply the absolute price.
It's the value for what you get.
The packaging looks premium.
The branding looks premium.
The product photographs look appealing.
But after tasting them, I didn't feel that the actual snack justified the premium feeling.
If the same packet were considerably cheaper—say around ₹20–₹30—I might have viewed it differently.
At ₹56, however, I found it difficult to recommend.

Decent quantity for a small snack

❌ What I Didn't Like

The actual pretzels are quite small
I found them difficult to eat in larger quantities
I personally felt somewhat bloated after eating a couple

4700BC also sells other pretzel flavours, including Barbeque and Sour Cream & Chives.
I haven't tried those yet, so I can't say whether they're better.
It's entirely possible that the seasoning or flavour profile of another variant might suit me more.
If I ever try one of them, I'll update my experience.
📝 My Final Verdict
Would I recommend the 4700BC Himalayan Salt Pretzel?
Not really—not at the price I paid.
It's not an awful product.
The packaging is attractive, the snack is convenient, and some people may genuinely enjoy the crunchy texture and relatively simple savoury flavour.
But for me, the combination of uneven saltiness, biscuit-like taste, small size and premium price didn't work.
I tried sharing it with my parents, but my mother found it too salty too. The packet eventually sat around until we finally threw away what was left.
If you're extremely curious about trying it, you can certainly give it a shot.
But personally, I wouldn't rush to buy another packet.
If I saw it at a much lower price, I might be more willing to try another flavour.
For ₹56, though, I'd rather spend my money on a snack I already know I'll enjoy.
And that's the whole point of I Tried This—sometimes you have to try something yourself to find out whether the hype, packaging and price actually match the experience.
